Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was born on 8 January 1957 in Bishnoherpur, Gonda (Uttar Pradesh), India. His father’s name is Jagdamba Sharan Singh and his mother’s name is Pyari Devi Singh. He married Ketki Devi Singh in 1980 and she is also a BJP politician. He has three children. He has two sons who are politicians and one daughter.

He started his political career with the Bharatiya Janata Party. For the first time in the year 1991, he won the election of the 10th Lok Sabha. After this victory, he won the Lok Sabha elections many times. He has won the Lok Sabha elections five times so far. This includes the 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 17th Lok Sabha elections. During this journey, he also worked for the Samajwadi Party from 2008 to 2014.
Controversy
In January 2023, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia and other wrestlers started a protest at the Jantar Mantar ground in New Delhi. He alleged that the Wrestling Federation of India President and his other colleagues se*ually harassed female players and female coaches.
Earlier he had slapped a boy in Ranchi during Under-15 National Wrestling Championship at Shaheed Ganpat Rai Indoor Stadium, Ranchi.
He also had an argument on Twitter with Patanjali’s founder Baba Ramdev.
